Distance Educations: Challenges and rewards
This week the assignment was to create a presentation using voicethread. You can see the workflow process explained on this video
Our group was composed of 4 participants. We initiated the work using Titanpad to create a draft and brainstorm some ideas regarding this assignment. Here is the link to the entire titanpad project.
Once we finished the brainstorming process we met online a couple of times via skype and teleconference to discuss the format to present the information. We also used the titanpad chat capability and personal email to communicate during the week.
Using google docs we created the presentation slides.
Finally the slides were uploaded to voicethread and each one commented a part of the presentation
Voicethread pros and cons: The whole process was fantastic and the collaboration a very enriching experience. Voicethread was very easy to use and the interface is very user friendly. When I was just about to buy a microphone I realized I could use the iphone app. I did mine part of the presentation using the voicethread app for my iphone. It took me a few trials to get things in a decent shape (I realized I do not have an announcer's voice) but I was pleased with the final results. The great thing about voicethread is there is no need to by additional hardware or install any software. I dont have many negative things to say about it. I found it has no volume control.
Voicethread can be used for multiple application in my professional activity:
1) give lectures students, residents, and fellows
2) Journal clubs: Give a group of residents a scientific journal. The group should prepare a presentation and the rest of the residents can comment
3) Trainee orientation: Instead of having trainees for several hours confined to a classroom we can give the orientation via this media
This is the final voicethread project.
